Message from the President Last
week the Trust met with the Member for Epping Dominic Perrottet’s
advisor to discuss the M2 noise issue, the Beecroft station ramp, our
train service and the regeneration of the Cheltenham haulage road.
Dominic’s staff will contact Transport NSW to firstly find out the
noise standards and current policy, and then hopefully for TNSW to
arrange for noise recordings at the homes of the people who wrote in.
This process will take time. If you have not submitted a comment

The retention of the pedestrian ramp from Wongala Crescent at Beecroft
Station is not simple. While we are getting the two promised lifts, the
existing ramp has to be altered at both ends as part of the lift
construction. Legislation requires that any altered structure, like when
the existing ramp is altered, automatically triggers the need for the
altered ramp to comply with the latest standards. This is why State Rail
wanted to replace the ramps with steps that are easier to fit into the
reduced space. However, Rail are still trying to see how a complying
ramp can be constructed within the constrained area.
The Trust is receiving regular complaints about the train service. The
main complaint centres on the need for commuters travelling in peak hour
to transfer between the urban and country platforms at Central. I am
hopeful that this inconvenient arrangement who be resolved in the future
when the Metro system is completed and the current pressure on the City
Circle line will be diminished. We don’t expect to get a definitive
position out of TNSW, but the Trust will continue lobbying on your
behalf so our concerns are not ignored when the rail network does change
again.
The regeneration of the former haulage road has been an exercise in
diplomacy for me. I have been regularly communicating with Hornsby’s
Mayor and General Manager and then with our local State Member Dominic
Perrottet and his office. While Council has thanked the Trust for
assisting in progressing the discussions, and both stakeholders have
been very polite and approachable, I still scratch my head as to why we
are all in this predicament? I will not comment further.
Suffice to say patience helps - for all parties.

Planning Harmonisation - update from City of Parramatta – Council ordinary meeting on Monday 11th November 2019. Parramatta
Council, like Hornsby Council’s Local strategic Planning study (LSPS),
is going through a similar rezoning process. It is called the
Harmonisation Planning Proposal and is on the agenda at next week’s
Ordinary Meeting, listed as Item 18.2. The meeting is open to the
public and will be held in the Cloister Function Rooms at St Patrick’s
Cathedral commencing 6.30pm. For more details, CLICK HERE
Graffiti in Beecroft and Cheltenham The
Trust has contacted the local Police Command about when to report
graffiti to the Police and the local Council. The Trust will provide
more details in our next eNews. In the meantime If your property has
been damaged by graffiti and you are having difficulty removing it, one
of our local real estate agents has kindly offered to assist. If

Ahimsa – 40th Anniversary – Sunday 19th November 2019 Residents are invited to attend the 40th
anniversary of the death of Marie Byles to be held her former property
Ahimsa at Cheltenham, owned by the National Trust. The Friends of Ahimsa
has organised a day of activities on Sunday 19th November
2019. The activities start about 10 am and continue through to 4pm. All

Beecroft Probus Investment Forum: 12th November 2019 “Ageing
better – recipes for body and mind” is the speaker’s topic at the
November meeting of the Beecroft Probus Investment Forum to be held at
the Beecroft Bowling Club on Tuesday, 12th November from 4.30 pm.
As we move into our later years, our health and our minds will be the

Update on the demolition and reconstruction of the heritage cottage known as 587 Pennant Hills Road Beecroft Update on the oldest heritage listed cottage in Hornsby Shire.
In previous eNews the Trust reported that the heritage listed cottage,
known as 587 Pennant Hills Road Beecroft at the corner of Copeland Road,
had been demolished, without any approval, while the surrounding
seniors housing development was being constructed. Regarded as the
oldest structure listed in Hornsby Council’s heritage precinct, a
separate Development Application was retrospectively lodged with Hornsby
Council seeking approval to rebuild the cottage using, where
appropriate, the original building materials which had been retained.
This DA was approved and consequently the cottage has now been rebuilt.
The reconstructed cottage, which was arguably 180 years old, has a plaque located next to it that outlines its early history.
The Trust understands that Council’s heritage consultant has recommended that the cottage is still worthy of a heritage listing.
